SMT & Production Equipment Technician

Key Responsibilities

• Set up and operate the complete SMT line, including solder paste printing, pick-and-place, and reflow.
• Load feeders and components and verify setup against bills of materials and production documentation.
• Perform first-article inspections before releasing a production run.
• Create and modify machine programs using pick-and-place files, Gerber data, assembly drawings, and related documentation.
• Monitor placement, solder paste, reflow, and other process parameters for quality and consistency.
• Manage product changeovers efficiently while preventing component mix-ups.
• Operate resin and filament 3D printers used to produce enclosures, fixtures, molds, and production tooling.
• Operate the dicing saw, including blade changes, alignment, setup, and inspection of finished cuts.
• Inspect circuit boards under magnification using applicable IPC-A-610 criteria.
• Perform hand soldering, hot-air rework, component replacement, and basic electrical troubleshooting.
• Complete preventive maintenance, calibration records, setup sheets, and production logs.
• Monitor production supplies and consumables and communicate reorder needs.
• Record production activity, inventory movement, and defective material in Airtable and CTT's internal systems.
• Recommend improvements that increase quality, safety, or efficiency.
• Cross-train and assist with other manufacturing work when needed.

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Experience operating, maintaining, or troubleshooting automated production equipment.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and comfort working with precision equipment and tools.
• Ability to read and follow work instructions, schematics, assembly drawings, and bills of materials.
• Steady hands and good near vision, with correction if needed.
• Comfort performing detailed work under magnification.
• Basic computer proficiency and the ability to learn machine software and internal systems.
• Strong recordkeeping habits, attention to detail, and reliable attendance.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with SMT stencil printing, pick-and-place, and reflow equipment.
• IPC-A-610 or J-STD-001 training or certification.
• Experience with 3D printing, dicing saws, CNC equipment, or laser depaneling.
• Experience with AOI, X-ray inspection, reflow profiling, or ESD control practices.
• Interest in wildlife, conservation, or field research.

Working Conditions

This position includes both standing and seated work, regular use of magnification, and occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds. Employees may work with solder paste, flux, isopropyl alcohol, adhesives, and photopolymer resins using provided PPE and ventilation. The normal schedule is weekdays, with occasional flexibility during production deadlines or busy shipping periods.
